Reviewing Savoury and Sweet!

Food & Drink
This week at VV HQ we’ve been lucky enough to try some sweet and savoury vegan foods and can not wait to tell you more!

Fermè Fermentino

A simple and natural alternative cheese, which is made with only three ingredients – nuts, water and salt. It’s simple, organic and vegan.  We had it for lunch with a few tomatoes & cucumber and it’s DELICIOUS.

This fermented food nut delicacy is a great way to increase your nut intake. Originating from Italy, Fermè Fermentino is bursting with flavour – We found the texture similar to hummus which makes it really moreish!  It’s great for lunch, and we read that it’s also great mixed into risotto for a creamy alternative to cheese.

Buttermilk

Artisan Confectionery launches dairy free and vegan fudge For Christmas 2019!  Tracy McDonnell Goad, director of Buttermilk told us; “We are so pleased to unveil a new range of fudge for people with food intolerance’s so nobody need miss out on a taste of Cornwall.” – and Buttermilks new Vegan Caramel Sea Salt Honeycomb is the tastiest sweet we’ve had in years.

It starts almost fudge like, then the honeycomb is crunchingly good, satisfyingly sticking to your teeth!  "I almost couldn’t eat it fast enough – I certainly don’t have the restraint of Prue Leith (from Bake-Off) when she only has a mouthful – I nearly ate the whole bag in one sitting!" Said our reviewer! The entire Christmas collection is available at www.buttermilk.co.uk and at selected outlets from September.

Geo Watkins’ Mushroom Ketchup

A great addition to a vegan chef’s armoury, particularly in the autumn and gives a nice umami taste to recipes. “I added it to my favourite vegan Shepherds Pie recipe and it really lifted it to new heights!”

“I softened some chopped onions, garlic, thyme & rosemary and then added carrots, parsnips and beetroot. Stir often so it doesn’t catch on the pan, and cook gently for about 10 minutes.  Once I’d added some good quality vegan stock and lentils I put two tablespoons of mushroom ketchup and cooked on a low heat for 30 minutes. Adding mashed potatoes with some softened leeks to the top finishes the dish.  Serve with some green veg and you’ve got a fabulous Autumnal supper!”

Prodigy Snacks

Prodigy Snacks have launched a unique vegan chocolate formula made from all natural and clean ingredients. These chocolate bars are made with natural, raw and organic ingredients, have less than half the sugar content of current brands and 30% of your daily recommended intake of fibre.

Sameer Vaswani, founder of Prodigy Snacks offered VeggieVision TV reviewers some samples to try.  “My first thought was that the bar tastes really expensive – however it retails at just £1.75.  It’s a chunky bar and really smooth to eat.”  Just as satisfying as the mainstream chocolate bar brands, Prodigy’s high fibre treats have prebiotic benefits promoting good gut health and are packed with antioxidants from raw cacao butter and cacao nibs. They are also vegan approved and free from dairy, gluten and refined sugar.

Prodigy Snacks will be available from prodigysnacks.com, Ocado, selected WHSmith Travel sites, Amazon, Yumbles, Borough Box and several independent eCommerce stores.

Prodigy Snacks products include: Chunky Chocolate Bar & Chunky Orange Chocolate and Baobab Bar – RRP: £1.75

Love Hemp

Established in 2015 by two London entrepreneurs.  Tony Calamita and Thomas Rowland established the disruptor brand after spotting a gap in the market for a high quality and innovative CBD brand.

We tried the CBD infused Jelly Domes which are vegan and sugar free. Each Jelly Dome contains 10mg of CBD and flavours include Orange, Strawberry and Lemon. All the flavours were great, but the orange one was definitely the favourite!

Take 1-4 Jelly Domes when needed and do not exceed 20 sweets per day. RRP £19.99 for 20 Jelly Domes! www.love-hemp.com.
