Chef Danielle Maupertuis and VeggieVision TV Founder Karin Ridgers Indulge in an Exquisite Vegan Afternoon Tea at Greenwoods Hotel and Spa in Essex

Food & Drink

Greenwoods Spa in Stock, Essex is beautiful venue not too far from where I live.

Over the years, I have attended many events at Greenwoods Spa and have even had the pleasure of hosting some myself and so I was delighted to see they now offer vegan afternoon teas. I had to visit and who else better to go than the queen of vegan afternoon teas herself – the UKs leading executive vegan pastry chef Chef Danielle Maupertuis!

While sipping pots of Earl Grey with soya milk and coffee for Danielle we waited for our three-tier tea stand of delights with a fire as a background and stunning lawns through the window.

The sandwiches and cakes were described to us reassuring us that everything was of course vegan - and we were left to relax, chat and enjoy!

The setting was elegant and tranquil, perfectly aligning with the spa's relaxing ambiance. The vegan afternoon tea menu impressed with its creative and flavourful offerings.

Danielle and I praised the selection of sandwiches, which included fresh, seasonal vegetables and delicious plant-based spreads.

The scones were complemented by vegan cream and little Tiptree pots. The assortment of pastries and cakes showcased the culinary team's skill in crafting delectable vegan treats that didn't compromise on taste or texture.

Karin particularly appreciated the attention to detail in both presentation and service, noting the friendly and knowledgeable staff who enhanced the overall experience.

Greenwoods Spa's vegan afternoon tea is a delightful indulgence for anyone seeking a sophisticated and satisfying plant-based dining option – and perhaps during a spa day or weekend visit too.

Chef Danielle said:

“I have worked in 5 star hotels all over the world and do feel that a venue like a hotel or spa can provide very special afternoon teas. I enjoyed Greenwoods and liked their flapjacks – one of my favourite treats! I may even return – when I am not so busy creating my own afternoon tea events of course!”

The vegan afternoon tea changes regularly and the menu for Karin and Danielles visit included:

  • Finger Sandwiches
  • Houmous and salad
  • Coronation chickpea (our favourite!)
  • Vegan cheese and pickle
  • Vegan cream cheese and cucumber
  • Plain and fruit scones
  • Fruity Flapjacks
  • Granola cupcake
  • Chocolate and cherry cheesecake
  • Chocolate and Blackberry Tart
  • Victoria Sponge

Karin added;

“There is something quite lovely about an afternoon tea – although I have yet to be able to eat half of the cakes offered so something to enjoy later or share. Greenwoods is just gorgeous as well and the team are always friendly and helpful too.”

The vegan afternoon tea is from £32.50 per person during the week and £36.50 per person on Fridays and weekends!
